Die Frau regt mich schon auf, wenn ich sie nur sehe. Ich weiss nicht, ob es ein grundlegendes Phänomen ist, dass Frauen ein beschränktes Selbstvertrauen haben und daher einen Erfolg grundsätzlich mit hundertprozentigem Wiedergeben von auswendig gelerntem gleichsetzen oder ob dies einfach eine Eigenart Palins ist. Ihre Reden haben meines Erachtens keinerlei Charakter. Man könnte gerade so gut ein Plüschtier an den Rednerpult stellen und ein Tonband laufen lassen. Ich verstehe jedoch, dass Amerikaner von ihrer Art und Weise begeistert sein könnten. Noch vor einem Jahr schloss ich es nicht aus, dass ich womöglich mal in die Staaten auswandern könnte. Mittlerweile habe ich diese Möglichkeit aber ziemlich ausgeschlossen. Mit der Zeit lernt man den "American Way" zu verstehen. Amerikaner lieben es, wenn man ihnen etwas vorspielt, sie mögen Shows, perfekt inszeniert, der Informationsgehalt ist hingegen nebensächlich. Wenn man im Museum eine geleitete Tour mitmacht, so ist diese begleitet von stupiden Fragen: "was denkt ihr, warum war dies, warum war das, und sowieso???" Die Amis sind dann jeweils sofort vor Ort und Stelle und bringen irgend eine dämliche Antwort. Es ist eine Art Fernsehquiz. Wer zuerst die richtige Antwort bringt, der hat gewonnen. Ich fühle mich dann jeweils versucht ein Leckerli zu werfen. Und Sarah Palin scheint wirklich herrlich da rein zu passen. Sie steht vor die Kamera, nein, sie sucht die Kamera, und leiert ihren Text runter. Ja, man kann ihr definitiv nicht verübeln, dass sie dies nicht gut machen würde. Alles schön auswendig gelernt inklusive einigen bösen Seitenhieben. Ja, sie wird ihrem Image als Pit Bull definitiv gerecht. An der Leine irgendeines Schreibers und ziemlich gut dressiert. Ich hoffe nur, dass sie stubenrein ist...

Yeah, many things in one post. In the meantime we visited all these place and additionally Montréal and Québec. However, we didn't leave Québec yet. Everybody certainly knows the Niagara Falls. At least after one of the Superman movies. I didn't know that this movie had such a big impact on the Niagara Falls but it really seems to be the number one movie when it comes to the Niagara Falls. At least the movie posters found inside of the building are prove of this assumption. And it was definitely good to let myself inspire by the undestructible man. The Niagara Falls are definitely impressive. If it comes to the actual height of the falls they are by far not the tallest. However, i think the amount of water passing this place beats everything else. 4200 m3/s are moved in average. Well, I bet not even Superman could do something like that. It is not very surprising that the falls are pretty touristic. The popularity comes at a price. If one wants to see untouched waterfalls with a nice surrounding it's not the right place here. Still, it is definitely worth it. Especially if the water plunges into your face while you are standing on the "maid of the mist" boat. A must do at the Niagaras.

After one day at the Niagaras we already left again and made our way to Toronto. Well, Toronto is one more big city. Pretty much like a US city actually. Skyscrapers and busy people. Additionally we find the CN tower which is the tallest building in the world. we spent our day by walking around in the downtown area and completed our day with a nice meal in the CN tower. The more than 20 dollar ride to the top is included by going to the restaurant. Additionaly you can pass the crowds and therefore feel a bit like a V.I.P. the only annoying part is the stupid photo that they wanna take of you before entering the elevator. And all queuing people are starring at you in the meantime. Sadly this stupid photo taking seems to be a must at every major attraction. Seattle Tower, CN tower, Maid of the Mist, Behind the Falls, Empire State Building and so forth. In summary it's always the same. Standing in front of a background picture or a bluescreen that is filled up with a background picture later on. I really wonder who is buying this shit. Well, most probably Japanese I suppose ;-)

Wasaga Beach

After one day Toronto we went to the longest freshwater sandbeach, called Wasaga Beach. Here I have to add that we were incredibly lucky with the weather. Before we arrived in the east we had nice weather almost every day while we heard about storms and floods in Montréal area. However, when we arrived in the east the weather was beautiful while the forecast showed a lot of rain in Vancouver area. NICE! Same thing for Wasaga. Beautiful weather the whole day. Even enough for a nice sunburn. It's just so much nicer to swin in saltfree water and still have a beach. The only thing you cannot do here is wavesurfing.

In the evening we left for the thousand island region. This is a island chain in the St. Lawrence river. Many of the islands are extremely small. The special thing about these small islands are the houses that sit on top of them. Often the whole island is covered by a house. Obviously that looks very funny. Sometimes it looks like the houses swim on the water. On one larger island there is even a castle. It has been built by the owner of the New York Waldorf Astoria. However, because of some sad love story he didn't finish some parts of it. Or at least he never used it for himself. In interest of the owners I hope that storms and floods are more seldom in the Thousand Island region than in Montréal.

Banff, Burning Hair and River Rafting

After a lot of time in the cities we finally made our way to the real Canada, the untouched nature. Well, Banff is not really untouched but definitely amazing. And also a big money cow. Just being in the national park costs 20 dollars a day. We stayed four days in the park, therefore 80 dollars. However, all other things in Banff and the parks are overpriced as well. But of course it is well worth it. The park is so big, even with the tremendous amount of tourists you will still find places of peace and silence. In the middle of the beautiful nature. Glaciers, mountains and extremely blue lakes are the masterpieces of the region. From time to time it is also possible to spot some deer or other wildlife. I will post some pictures tomorrow. They are definitely worth posting.
Besides exploring the nature I also enjoyed the amenities of my hostel. There was a nice barbecue in the garden. So I bought some very nice tenderloin steak and wanted to grill it. Sadly I put myself on fire during the process. I turned on the gas and threw a match into the thing. The result was a huge flame coming into my direction; and the smell of burnt hair. Yes, my hair were burning, eyebrows and eyelashes as well. At least i have enough hair and I can live with some destroyed ones.
The second last day in Canada we spent with River Rafting on the Kicking Horse River. I don't have to mention that the scenery is stunning. And the rafting was definitely much more fun than in Peru two years ago. Some strong class IV rapids kept us entertained. At the end we even took a little swim through some rapids. Was very enjoyable. Tomorrow we will take the plane to Buffalo NY and have a look at the popular Niagara Falls. Everyone of course knows them from Superman ;-)

seattle, VANCOUVER, victoria

It's already some days ago since I wrote the last time. In the meantime we were in Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria. However, just one day in Seattle and Victoria and all other days in Vancouver. Seattle was nice, but not really what I expected it to be. A little bit quiet. Vancouver, however, was great. may be especially because of the great weather. i've been told that it is one of the most rainy cities. but there are many nice beaches, mounains in the background, nice people, definitely a place to live. Not surprisingly it ranks on the fourth place in the mercer study "best cities to live in". the only bad thing is the huge amount of homeless and drug addicted people. the ghetto in vancouver is by far the largest in canada I've been told. but otherwise it's great, skiing in the afternoon and a swim in the sea in the evening. what more do you want? victoria we just visited for one day. we had to go by ferry. was a very nice ride. many small islands. victoria by itself is not that great. very small, not much to see. today we will head for banff national park. heard many good things about this place. must be stunning. next time i will post some photos.

Yesterday we arrived in Seattle. Until now the trip was pretty nice. I didn't take that many pictures yet since I've already been in San Diego and Las Vegas. However, in San Diego we additionally were in Sea World. I didn't like it that much. Actually, I think the purpose of this place originally was educational. Like all the other aquariums I've been so far. However, Sea World is more like a Disney Land than an aquarium. There are Rollercoasters and even a 4D theater that has absolutely nothing to do with sea animals. It's about the sesame street and absolutely childish. After that I also understood why the entrance is a whooping 61 dollars. Also very nice was the beginning of the Shamu show when american soldiers were praised. Come on, please spare me!!! In the evening we went out with some people from the Hostel. Was pretty funny. Despite jet lag I was able to enjoy the night in San Diego.
Next day we had to leave early and headed to Las Vegas, to the city where all illusions come true. The stay in Vegas was not cheap at all and set me back pretty badly. So now I have to save some money. However, for a few days we could live the life. We stayed in a junior suite in the Trump international and MGM Signature. Price per night, 100 dollars per person. For this money you get not even a 3 star in Zürich. And the Hotels were just crazy. Jacuzy, small flatscreen in the mirror of the bathroom, kitchenette, a phantastic view and much more. Very enjoyable. Furthermore we visited the show "Phantom", a Vegas copy of Phantom of the Opera and of course went gambling. However, I just gambled during one hour or so, then I left. With 100 dollars more. Not bad, since I just played with very little money.
Actually it was planned to leave Vegas after one night, at the end we stayed three. That's why we had to make our way up to Seattle in a damn rush. We started at about 3pm, stopped at a motel 2am, started again at about 10am and arrived in Seattle at 11pm. So one whole day just driving, about the same distance as driving from Lisabon to Köln. But the scenery was really amazing. Sadly we didn't have time to make stops for sightseeing. Anyway, today we will have a look around Seattle and already leave to Vancouver in the evening. However, we'll come back to Seattle for one, two days before we have to catch our flight to Buffalo, NY.

After a very very long journey I at least arrived in Atlanta and I am recently waiting for my connection flight to San Diego while watching news about strong earthquakes in... San Diego. At least the final destination is reaching nearer and nearer. looking forward to finally have a beer.

Holidays in America.... Again

Hi Guys! Yes, Patrick is back, back in America... Well, not yet, but soon. But since Patrick is going to America again he certainly has to write in English. Ok, the trip will also include Montréal and Québec but I'm certainly not gonna start to write in French. As a start I would like to say: F*ck the Police!!! Ok, that was good. However, in three days my trip will start. After exhausting 40 hours I will finally arrive in San Diego, where I will meet Nakul, a friend of mine. Hopefully, the fact that we call him "pain in the ass" won't influence the trip ;-) the little trip will lead us from San Diego up to Seattle, than we'll go to Vancouver, investigate British Columbia and Alberta a bit, take a plane from Seattle to Buffallo NY, from where we will drive to Toronto, Montréal, Quebéc, some other places in this area (may be Halifax), then Boston and finally New York. And yes, that's already it. Well, if there will be some stories to tell I will write it here, if I'm not too lazy. May I will even post some pizr pizr... Insider :-)

Kopenhagen, Stockholm und Oslo

So, ich glaube es wird endlich wieder mal Zeit für nen neuen Eintrag in meinem Blog. In der Zwischenzeit habe ich nämlich drei der Skandinavischen Hauptstädte abgeklappert. Als erstes war Kopenhagen an der Reihe, wobei ich da lediglich einen Tag und eine Nacht verbracht habe. Macht an sich nen ganz schönen Eindruck die Stadt. Leider war das Wetter so was von übel, sogar für Dänische Zustände war es sprichwörtliches Katzenwetter. Im morgentlichen Stress habe ich dann auch noch die Kamera vergessen und daher konnte ich keine Fotos machen. Kopenhagen ist eine sehr teure Stadt. Für das lausige Hostel, das wir hatten, haben wir 150 Kronen bezahlt, wobei dies der Preis ist, der an der Reception angeschrieben ist. Wir hatten jedoch schon 10% oder so bezahlt durch unsere Reservation. Wurde aber nicht abgezogen! Finde ich grundsätzlich schon mal ne Frechheit (SLEEP-IN-HEAVEN). Danach mussten wir aber nochmal 40 Kronen (fast 10 Franken) für die Bettbezugmiete bezahlen. HALLOOOOOO! Ich konnte wohl froh sein, dass ich nicht noch das Bett leihen musste. Ich kaufe schliesslich kein Grundstück, sondern eine Übernachtungsmöglichkeit, wo solche Dinge inbegriffen sein sollten. Dann der nächste Hammer. Sie hätten ja nicht viele Regeln, das einzige was sie jedoch verbieten würden, sei der Konsum von mitgebrachten alkoholischen Getränken, die man jedoch an der lausigen Bar (Reception) konsumieren könne. F*** YOU!!! Was soll denn das bitte für ne Regelung sein und warum war davon nichts in der Hostelbeschreibung zu lesen?!? Für mich wäre dies auf jeden Fall ein Grund gewesen, nicht dort zu übernachten. Natürlich haben wir dort trotzdem unseren eigenen Schnaps gesoffen. Aber trotzdem, Frechheit. Also liebe Leute, bitte meidet das Sleep-in-Heaven. Abzocke pur! Geht echt besser in ein Hotel, zahlt ein wenig mehr, dafür kriegt ihr aber noch Frühstück. Das Hostel hat ja schlussendlich auch etwa 45 Franken gekostet! Aber eben, ansonsten wars eigentlich ganz schön. Christiania halt und die schöne Altstadt. Tivoli war leider zu. Da ich auch noch Probleme mit einem Buschauffeur hatte, nehme ich unter dem Strich leider nicht allzu gute Erfahrung mit nach Hause.

Am nächsten Tag ging es dann aber nach Stockholm. Wir trafen dann noch andere Leute und waren schliesslich zu acht. Vier Spanier, zwei Italiener, ein Brite und ich, der Schweizer. Stockholm ist wirklich ne wunderschöne Stadt und ich kann den Besuch jedem wärmstens ans Herzen legen. Wir verbrachten drei ganze Tage in Stockholm und haben jede Menge gesehen. Sehenswert ist sicherlich das Vasamuseum, wo ein mittelalterliches Schiff ausgestellt ist. Ansonsten lohnt es sich schon einfach, die Stadt abzulaufen. Es ist eigentlich fast überall schön. Und dann hatten wir auch noch schönes Wetter. Es war zwar saukalt und hat sogar ziemlich heftig geschneit, aber das Erlebnis war sehr gut. Das Hotel war ebenfalls ein Glücktreffer. 38 Euro pro Nacht im Einzelzimmer haben wir bezahlt für ein 4-Sterne Hotel inmitten des Zentrums mit riesen Frühstücksbuffet. Wenn ich da mit dem lausigen Kopenhagenhotel vergleiche, so bleibt mir nur leeres Schlucken übrig. Das Hotel war das Rica Hotel Kungsgatan. Das einzige, was etwas übel ist, ist der Ausgang. Wir waren leider zu dämlich, Alkohol einzukaufen und da Osterwochenende war, waren all die staatlichen Alkoholäden geschlossen. Einzige Möglichkeit war also 3.5% Bier aus dem 7/Eleven oder Eintrinken in nem billiegen Pub, wobei auch da der Mindestpreis bei 30 SEK pro 4dl liegt. Wenn man dann noch in nen Club will und der Eintritt bei 120 SEK liegt, dann entscheidet man sich dann lieber dazu, keine ausgiebigen Parties zu feiern.

Letzte Destination war Oslo, wo ich Cypi besuchte. Ich habe viel schlechtes über Oslo gehört, muss aber sagen, dass ich die Stadt gar nicht so übel finde. Wir habe fast die ganze Stadt in zwei Tagen abgelaufen. Ein Highlight war zum Beispiel der riesen Park mit den vielen Skulpturen von nachten Menschen. Wirklich extrem gepflegt uns schön der Park, als auch die Skulpturen. Daneben gab es viele schöne Häuser vor allem im Embassy District, aber auch ansonsten hat es einige hübsche Plätzchen. Oslo ist natürlich teuer, trotzdem war ich dieses Mal nicht so dumm und habe Tax Free (Norwegen ist ja wie die Schweiz nicht in der EU - Scheiss EU!) Alkohol eingekauft. Cypi und ich waren daher auch Freitag und Samstag im Ausgang ohne horrendes Geld auszugeben. 4dl Bier im Club kosten 60 NOK und der Eintritt 100 NOK. Auch das Essen ist sehr teuer. Ein Big King XXL Menu schlägt mit etwas mehr als 20 Franken zu Buche. Public Transpot ist hingegen auch sehr gut. 22 NOK kostet ein Ticket und damit kann man eine Stunde fahren. In Kopenhagen kostet das ganze 20 DK. Der Unterschied ist nur, dass Oslo über ganze sechs U-Bahnlinien verfügt, aber nur knapp mehr als 500'000 Einwohner hat. Zusammgefasst würde mir Oslo sicherlich sehr gut als Wohnort gefallen, nicht zuletzt aufgrund der überwältigend schönen Frauen. Das ganze trifft jedoch auch auf Stockholm zu. Das einzige, was mich wohl davon abhalten würde, sind die unmenschlichen Temperaturen und das wenige Licht während der Winterzeit.

Reisen

Die heutige Welt ist schon verrückt. Da waren wir doch einfach so ein Wochenende in Dublin. Jaja, heute kann man selbst als Student mal für ein Wochenende weg fliegen. Dank Billigfliegern und günstigen Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten halten sich die Kosten gering. In unserem Fall war selbst die einstündige Busfahrt zum Flughafen und zurück teurer als der Flug. 300 Kronen (ca.70 CHF) war der Flug, 380 Kronen hingegen die Busfahrt. Bei grösseren Entfernungen muss man normalerweise die Zugverbindungen gar nicht mehr überprüfen. Die sind eh teurer. Trotzdem hat der Zug halt immer noch den Vorteil, dass Anwesenheit von fünf Minuten vor Abfahrt absolut ausreichend ist. Anders beim Fliegen. Zuerst Check-In (nicht mit Ryanair), dann Security Check, dann warten, dann endlich einsteigen, dann nochmal warten und ja, dann geht's endlich los. Da man nicht wirklich abschätzen kann, wieviele Leute am security check warten, sollte man schon ne Stunde vor Abflug da sein. Im Gegensatz zum Bahnhof befinden sich die Flughäfen dann auch noch am Arsch der Welt, was eine lange Anreise unabdingbar macht. Nein, mittlerweile mag ich das Fliegen nicht mehr so gerne. Es ist einfach nur stressig. Wenn man dann noch Transfers hat, dann wird es sogar noch schlimmer. Aber es ist halt einfach die billigste Art zu reisen. Strange World!

She's tall but not too tall. she has blond hair and blue eyes. Of course she likes to cycle and to jog. And she often goes to the gym in order to keep her faultless body in shape. She likes to drink beer as all danes do. A friday or saturday evening normally ends in conditions ranging from tipsy to completely drunk. Over her leggings she likes to wear a skirt or a long shirt. High heels are not so common. She prefers boots of different sizes. She knows that she's hot. But hey, it's true, she's an angel.

F*** Apple

Eigentlich have ich den Blog ja als meinen Ferienblog eingerichtet. Wird aber trotzdem mal Zeit für ein Offtopic Thema. Und zwar bezüglich Apple. Der Firma, die sich solch vielen, schon fast krankhaft treuen Konsumenten erfreuen darf. Also ich gehöre da definitiv nicht dazu. Mir geht der ganze Apple Hype gehörig auf die Nerven. Was zum Teufel bewegt die Leute dazu, für eine solche Unternehmung sogar Werbung zu machen? Ich könnte ja verstehn, wenn man einfach das Apple OS gut findet und dieses auch weiterempiehlt. Aber warum gleich alles? Die Produkte mögen ja schon gut sein, aber auch verdammt teuer. Ich sehe hier also nicht wirklich etwas, das Apple besser macht als die anderen. Des Weiteren, und das finde ich eigentlich das Schlimmere, handelt Apple nicht gerade so, wie ich es von einer Unternehmung mit solchem Kultfaktor erwarten würde. Es gibt ja wohl schon ein paar verblendete Applekunden, denen Steve Jobs wohl sogar persönlich auf den Kopf scheissen könnte und trotzdem würden sie jedes neue Apple-Produkt kaufen. Aber für mich sind gewisse Dinge einfach tödlich für meine Beziehung zu einer Unternehmung. Dies nun vor allem das neue iPod Touch Update. Als stolzer Besitzer und early costumer eines Touch darf ich nun 25 Franken abblättern, um mir ein Softwareupdate zu laden. Ein paar neue Anwendungen sind dabei, die beim iPhone bereits am Anfang Standart waren. Naja, das ganze wäre ja noch einigermassen verkraftbar, wenn da nicht noch der Fact wäre, dass alle neuen iPods die besagten Programme bereits vorinstalliert haben. Und dies natürlich bei einem niedrigeren Preis als zum Zeitpunkt der Markteinführung. Sorry Apple, aber das ist ne absolute Schweinerei!!! Warum soll ich bittesehr für ein Update bezahlen, welches erstens nicht neue entwickelte Produkte beeinhaltet und zweitens für Neukunden gratis abgegeben wird. Ich habe mir ja überlegt mir ein MacBook zuzulegen. Mittlerweile bin ich jedoch wieder davon abgekommen. Da gibt es nämlich noch weitere Storys. Gerade bezüglich Laptops. Bei einer Aktion names Neptun können Studierende jedes Jahr günstig Laptops kaufen. Dabei sind auch Apple MacBooks (Pro). Das Fenster ist immer nur für eine gewisse Zeit geöffnet und es ist nur eine begrenzte Auswahl erhältlich. Daher sollten wohl auch alle Kunden gleich behandelt werden. Nun ist es aber so, dass Kunden die ihren Mac noch vor dem 1.Oktober bestellt haben, ihr OS nicht günstig auf Leopard aufrüsten können, die anderen jedoch schon. Hallloooooooooooo!!!!! Schon mal was von Kulanz gehört!!!!! Sowas geht doch einfach nicht. Oder dann wäre da ja noch der Skandal mit dem iPhone. Bereits kurze Zeit nach Einführung des iPhones wird der Preis 200 Dollar runtergesetzt. Was 33% entspricht! Man sahnt also zuerst ganz kräftig von den Idioten ab, die sich sowieso allen Applekram ungeachtet des Preises sofort zulegen. Und dann, dann setzt man den Preis runter, damit das Produkt marktfähig ist und es sich nun auch der Normalo kauft. Ja, da bleibt echt nur eines zu sagen. F*** Apple!!!!
